Q: What is the difference between a vector and raster map?
A: A vector map uses lines and polygons, rather than picture elements to describe an image. Vector maps allow images to be made with layers for ease of editing. Changing map elements (color, line width, type, scale) is accomplished easily. Image resolution is sharp even when the image is displayed or printed at greatly enlarged perspectives. Raster images are commonly referred to a "bit maps." These graphics are typically created and used with programs such as Adobe Photoshop. Zooming in on a raster image produces unattractive results.
